FT Nanny Needed in Sandy Hook, VA

Full-Time Career Nanny Needed for Sweet 3½-Year-Old with Special Needs

A loving single-parent family is seeking an exceptional, experienced full-time nanny to care for their joyful 3½-year-old son beginning July 6, 2026. This is a long-term opportunity for a compassionate, dependable professional who is passionate about supporting children with developmental differences and becoming an integral part of a close-knit family.

The family's son is a happy, affectionate little boy who loves exploring the world around him. He has been diagnosed with Angelman syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that results in developmental and cognitive delays. Although he is 3½ years old, he is currently functioning developmentally at approximately a one-year-old level. He is non-verbal, experiences sensory sensitivities, and thrives with consistency, patience, and encouragement.

The position averages 46 hours per week with a schedule that varies based on the parent's work commitments. Care is generally needed three days each week, with scheduled hours of 5:15 a.m. to 9:00 p.m, with ample downtime. While the workday often ends earlier than 9:00 p.m., applicants should be comfortable committing to the full scheduled availability when needed. The nanny will have their schedule six weeks in advanced. Must work one weekend a month.

Daily responsibilities include preparing and serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, administering scheduled medications for seizures and sleep, maintaining the child's established routines, encouraging meals with creativity and patience, supporting diapering and potty training, and reading a bedtime story before his evening routine. Nanny should be comfortable implementing a sleeping schedule.

In addition to childcare, light household responsibilities related to the child are expected. These include cleaning up after meals, loading and running the dishwasher, wiping down eating areas, tidying play spaces, and assisting with laundry, particularly as it relates to potty training and occasional accidents. Transportation is not currently required, although driving responsibilities may be added in the future.

The family is searching for a career nanny with significant professional childcare experience, preferably supporting children with developmental disabilities or medical needs. Candidates with educational or professional backgrounds in medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, child psychology, early childhood special education, speech-language pathology, social work, or related healthcare fields are highly encouraged to apply. Most importantly, they are seeking someone who is genuinely eager to learn about Angelman syndrome and become an advocate for their son's continued growth and independence.

The ideal nanny is calm, highly organized, communicative, gentle, intuitive, creative, mindful, and able to work independently while maintaining excellent professionalism. The family values someone who is dependable, and committed to building a long-term relationship. They are looking for someone who can confidently interpret non-verbal communication, anticipate needs, and thoughtfully create opportunities for learning, play, and developmental progress each day.
